Gude und herzlich willkommen zu dieser Sonderfolge von Global Village 069 – die Welt zu Hause in Frankfurt.
Diese Episode wird ein bisschen anders als normalerweise. Denn heute geht es ausnahmsweise nicht darum, in ein bestimmtes Land innerhalb von Frankfurt zu reisen. Stattdessen gibt es dieses Mal einen Rückblick auf eine großartige Veranstaltung, die es zwar deutschlandweit gibt, die aber meiner Meinung nach ganz besonders gut zu Frankfurt passt: Die Interkulturelle Woche.
Die Interkulturelle Woche findet jedes Jahr in der letzten Septemberwoche in rund 600 Städten in der gesamten Bundesrepublik statt. Das Ziel ist, dass Vereine, Initiativen und Privatpersonen, die sich für interkulturelle Vielfalt einsetzen, sich mit Veranstaltungen in ihrer Stadt präsentieren. Das kann alles Mögliche sein, vom Sprachcafé über ein Sportfest bis hin zu einem Theater- oder Filmabend oder einem Kochevent.
In Frankfurt wurde die „IKW“ dieses Jahr von Über den Tellerrand Frankfurt unter dem Motto „Frankfurt is(s)t bunt“ ausgerichtet. Diesen wunderbaren Verein kennt ihr vielleicht noch aus Folge 7. Über den Tellerrand hat über 40 andere Organisationen in unserer Stadt mobilisiert, die über 80 Veranstaltungen angeboten haben – eine Wahnsinns-Zahl!
Ein besonderes Highlight war die feierliche Eröffnung der Interkulturellen Woche Frankfurt am 21. September in den Räumlichkeiten des Amts für Multikulturelle Angelegenheiten, oder kurz Amka. Ganz wichtig: Auch wenn die Interkulturelle Woche 2023 vorbei ist, alle Organisationen, die bei der Interkulturellen Woche mitgemacht haben, bieten fortlaufend spannende und wichtige Events an!
Ich war dort für euch unterwegs und habe mich mit gleich drei spannenden Organisationen unterhalten und mit unserer Bürgermeisterin Dr. Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg darüber unterhalten, warum die Interkulturelle Woche für Frankfurt so wichtig ist.

Abá e.V.: Arbeitskreis für Menschenrechte mit Sitz in der Berger Straße. Eines der laufenden Projekte des Vereins heißt „Werde Teil des Wandels“. Hier geht es um interkulturelle Vermittlung von Nachhaltigkeit und Entwicklungspolitik, speziell aus der Sicht von Migrantinnen aus dem globalen Süden.

Special episode: The Intercultural Week Frankfurt
Gude and welcome to this special episode of Global Village 069 – the world at home in Frankfurt.
This episode will be a bit different than usual. Because today, for once, it’s not about traveling to a specific country within Frankfurt. Instead, this time there’s a look back at a great event that exists throughout Germany, but which I think is particularly well suited to Frankfurt: the Intercultural Week.
The Intercultural Week takes place every year in the last week of September in about 600 cities throughout the country. The aim is for associations, initiatives and private individuals who are committed to intercultural diversity to present themselves with events in their city. The offer ranges from language cafés and a sports festivals to theater or film evenings or cooking events.
In Frankfurt, the „IKW“ was organized this year by Über den Tellerrand Frankfurt. You may remember this wonderful association from episode 7. Über den Tellerrand mobilized more than 40 other organizations in our city, who offered more than 80 events – an amazing number!
A particularly big highlight was the ceremonial opening of the Intercultural Week Frankfurt on September 21 in the premises of the Office for Multicultural Affairs, or Amka for short. Very important to note: Even if the Intercultural Week 2023 is over, all organizations that participated in the Intercultural Week continuously offer exciting and important events!
I was there on the night and got to speak to three exciting organizations as well as our mayor Dr. Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg about why the Intercultural Week is so important for Frankfurt.

Abá e.V.: Working group for human rights based in Berger Straße. One of the association’s ongoing projects is called „Become part of the change„. This is about intercultural mediation of sustainability and development policy, especially from the perspective of migrant women from the global south.
